Many Faces of Qigong

I think that every day I do a search on Qigong another style emerges, its unbelievable, not so much that there are so many styles out there but rather the diversity of the practice.

I remember when I was first learning Qigong, I was a bit confused as to what it exactly was. One day Qigong was stretching, another it was meditation and relaxed breathing and yet another it would be strength training.

Because of my uncertainty (like most other people that I was training with) I basically wound up thinking that “Qigong” was an eclectic collection of movements.

As time progressed and I became aware of the almost uncountable styles of Qigong out there I started to recognize a commonality between all of them.

All Qigong practices revolve around specific principles of functional movement:

Core stabilization and alignmentthe specific alignment of the hips and spine that results in the greatest potential of force

Awareness of body position - having a mindful connection to where your body is and how it is reacting to specific stimulus (such as a sense of balance or attention to breath)

Balanced Core movements – resulting in the most efficient use of force

These are just a few of the important elements of Qigong training, there are others of course but Ill get into them on another post (I don’t think you have the time to read a full dissertation…).  But hopefully this information can shed more light on your Qigong training.
