Overview of the Dantiens

Dan TiensDantiens (daan tee en’s) are roughly translated as “Energy Gates” or “Energy Centers”.  They are basically, by Qigong standards, considered to be the bodies major storage points for the vital energy.

There are several Dantiens in the body all located along the mid line of the torso, positioned at a major fulcrum point of movement.

Your pelvis for example supports the weight of your upper body while transferring the force through your lower body. Thus by Qigong standards it is a major point of energy (because weight, and force are forms of energy).

By a modern day standpoint the Dantiens relate to “Core Muscle Regions”. And interestingly enough, todays exercise research has determined that core muscle training is an incredibly effective form of physical performance enhancement (meaning that when you have a strong stable core your body moves with more efficiency – or more energy).

There are several major Dantiens in the body that I will get to in future posts.

These two pictures represent the concept of Dantien regions. (links attached to pictures)

[...] The Spine, Center Line and Qigong The Center Line is the dominant energy pathway in the body that includes the mid line of the anterior and posterior torso.  There is a constant flow of energy circulating through the anterior and posterior mid lines of the body, creating what is known as the microcosmic orbit.  This orbit facilitates the primary flow of energy in the body and feeds all of the bodies energy pathways.   The Center Line is also intimately connected with our posture and alignment and connects the energies of the Dantiens.
