Circulatory System and Qigong

300px-Diagram_of_the_human_heart_cropped.svgIn Qigong the Circulatory system plays these major roles in Qigong: Circulation of Blood, and Vitality to the Source.

Circulation of Blood: is the continual distribution of blood through the heart vessels and tissues of the body. This process has two major components: the first is to deliver essential nutrients from the digestive system and oxygen from the respiratory system to the entire body.  The second is to remove metabolic waste products from the cells such as carbon dioxide, which is delivered to the lungs for exhaust and other cellular waste such as urea that is delivered to the Kidneys to be filtered out as urine.

Circulation is affected by blood pressure, which is a combination of three factors: the volume of fluid in the vessels, the resistance of the vessels and the contraction force of the heart.  Basically the more force being exerted on the vessel walls the higher the blood pressure.  High blood pressure predisposes the vessels to rupture that may ultimately case stroke, where as low blood pressure can cause fatigue, light headedness and a fainting.  Thus healthy blood pressure is neither too high nor too low (the average is 90–120/60-80 systolic over diastolic)

Vitality to the Source: the heart is the most unique organ, as it is powered by consistent waves of electromagnetic force.  In Qigong theory the body is dependant on the regular flow of electric energy (meridians).  Therefore the Hearts energy strongly affects the functionality of the entire body. In the Qigong theory the pulsation of the hearts energy has a dramatic effect on organic functionality and regulation.

This lends a lot of credit to the idea of feeling and living from the Heart as a means to improve ones health and vitality.
