Low Back Pain

sacroiliLow Back Pain is a condition that almost everyone goes through in their lifetime.

Because the lower back connects and supports the weight between the upper body to the lower body all of our daily life activities somehow place pressure on it.  Sitting in a chair, walking, exercising and even sleeping can all cause some sort of strain.   And though the lower back has a healthy support structure that is made to counter these daily forces of life, over time these stresses can get the better of you.

take a look at these two major structures in the lower back:

Lumbar Vertebrate- forming the lower part of the spine - these 5 lumbar vertebrate bones carry the entire weight of the upper body.

Sacrum- a flat triangular like bone that connects the right and left sides of the pelvis to the lumbar vertebrate.

When the back suffers from too much pressure or injury the the sacrum and lumbar vertebrate can become misaligned.  When this occurs the nerve roots originating in the spine become constricted resulting in pain.  (can you picture your spine being squished together?)

Quite often one of the major stresses to the lower back are tightness in the various muscles that connect to the lower back.  This muscular tightness comes from the bodies need to cope with the force that we are putting on the lower back.  (the idea is that the tighter the muscles the more they can support the joints, unfortunately this action can actually create more tightness)

The Qigong answer to this is to regularly perform stretches and practice therapeutic exercises that circulate blood through the lower back region.  This video below is the first in a series for Low back pain.  There are no exercises on the video - just me talking about the causes of lower back pain.
