Massage Points for Knee Pain
The Knee’s are a constant source of worry and concern. They hold the wight of our world and carry us through our life. They are subject to the pressure and friction of overuse.
Knee pain has many different causes. When the muscles surrounding the knee become tense or knotted it creates pressure and friction on the knee joint leading to knee pain. This condition also creates the risk of knee injury.
Stretching is often the best remedy for this. However when stretching cant get release all of the tension it may be a good idea to massage out the areas. find a relaxed position to sit or lay in and then using your thumb, fingers or heel of you palm to rub out these areas (you can also use an object such as a tennis ball to massage with or lay on – see low back pain massage points)
Massage at these points relieves tension on the Quadriceps and the patella tendon. There are three points that can generally relieve tension at the different sides of the Patella Tendon
A) This area corresponds to the Acupuncture point of St 34
B) This area does not relate to an actual Acupuncture point but is related to the stomach and spleen meridian. It’s located in the belly of the Quadriceps femoris
C) Relates to the Acupuncture point Sp 10
D) relates to St 36 in acupuncture. This area releases the patella tendon from its lower attachment around the Tibialis Anterior.
These points generally release tension on the Vastus lateralus, Peroneus Longus and IT band. IT band tension is one of the most common types of knee strains
E) this region relates to the acupuncture points Gb 33 and 32. Tey focus on releasing the vastus lateralus.
F) relates to Gb34. It releases the lower attachment of the IT band
.
.
These points release tension on the adductors. This is a relatively sensitive area, so massage here can be a bit tender.
G) relates to the Acupuncture point of Lv 8. It focuses on releasing tension at the medial attachments of the adductor muscles
H) this general area can release tension at the lower attachment of the adductors and the medial gastrocnemius (calf muscle)
.
.
.
These points release tension behind the knee in the calf muscles – (soleus, gastrocnemius, poplitelus and plantaris), as well as tension in the hamstrings.
I) Releases tension on the hamstring muscles of the Biceps femoris. This point generally relates to the acupuncture point of Ub 39 and 38
J) releases tension directly behind the knee. it relates to the acupuncture point Ub 40

I have come across a few other websites related to this subject in the past few weeks in doing a research report for my boss. I have to say that what you’re saying here makes perfect sense and is helping me to get my head around this subject. Do you have any other websites you could recommend to help my research?
